As Real Madrid product moves on, América emerges as LaLiga team’s feeder club

Álvaro Fidalgo has swapped América for Betis, becoming the latest player to move from Las Águilas to the Seville club.

This weekend, Club América officially confirmed Álvaro Fidalgo’s departure, bringing to a close a five‑year run in which he became a cornerstone of the Azulcrema midfield.

The Spaniard was left out of the matchday squad for América’s win over Necaxa, ahead of the official announcement that a transfer to LaLiga club Real Betis had been agreed.

Fidalgo’s exit closes an important chapter for the club, where he stood out thanks to his vision, technique, and unwavering consistency within América’s system.

By continuing his career with Betis, Fidalgo is fulfilling a long‑held personal ambition. Developed in Real Madrid’s academy, the midfielder returns to Spanish soccer with hopes of establishing himself in LaLiga.

América a new talent pipeline for Betis

With this transfer, Fidalgo becomes the third player to move directly from América to Betis, joining a group that already includes Guido Rodríguez and Diego Lainez — strengthening the growing connection between the two clubs.

Lainez opens up América-Betis pathway

Lainez’s case set an important precedent. In 2019, the young Mexican winger signed a five‑year deal with Betis, where he logged minutes, scored two goals, and lifted the Copa del Rey in 2022, even though he didn’t complete the full length of his contract.

Lainez spent three years with Los Verdiblancos before being loaned out to Sporting Braga in Portugal. In 2023, he returned to Liga MX with Tigres - where he currently plays - officially ending his European venture.

Rodríguez a midfield standard‑bearer

Rodríguez, meanwhile, arrived at América in 2017 and became a key figure in the club’s Liga MX, Copa MX, and Campeón de Campeones titles. His performances earned him a move to Betis in January 2020 for a fee of roughly $8 million.

With Betis, Rodríguez also lifted the Copa del Rey in 2022 and concluded his stint there in 2024. Now, with Fidalgo joining the Andalusian side, the recent trend linking América and Betis only grows stronger - leaving a distinct imprint on both sides of the Atlantic.
