Barcelona’s bold summer target: Anthony Gordon emerges as a top priority
Direct talks are reportedly underway with Newcastle to negotiate a transfer fee. Bayern Munich and Liverpool are also interested in him.

Barcelona’s push for a major summer rebuild now has a clear headline name: Anthony Gordon. As AS reported early Tuesday, Barça’s interest in the 25‑year‑old winger from Liverpool is not casual — it’s a full‑throttle pursuit. Gordon’s name had already surfaced weeks ago after Deco met with his representatives, and Hansi Flick is fully on board. The coach values Gordon’s versatility, relentless work rate, ability to beat defenders, and the kind of high‑intensity engine that fits his system. Add in his knack for scoring, and he checks a lot of boxes.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona and Newcastle have already opened direct talks to negotiate a fee. But Barça isn’t alone in the chase. Bayern Munich — irritated by Barça’s supposed interest in Harry Kane — and Liverpool, weakened on the right after Mohamed Salah’s departure, are also in the mix.

Gordon’s willingness to join Barcelona could help lower the final price, and that has ripple effects inside Barça’s roster planning. One name directly affected: Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United forward, on loan this season, wants to stay, and Flick has approved the idea. But Gordon would represent a clear upgrade for the 2026–27 squad, potentially pushing Rashford out of the equation.
Financially, Barcelona is slowly climbing out of its economic hole. With LaLiga’s approval, the club is preparing a major investment this summer — up to $165 million (€150M). Gordon would be one of the marquee additions to reinforce the wings, offering premium rotation for Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
What’s missing? The crown jewel: a long‑term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. And the dream target remains Julián Álvarez.
