Bayern Munich - Barcelona: times, how to watch on TV, stream online in US/UK, 2022-23 Champions League
All the info on how and where to watch as Bayern Munich host Barcelona at the Allianz Arena on Matchday 2 of the 2022-23 Champions League.
Barcelona travel to Munich for Tuesday’s game against Bayern Munich with revenge in mind: the aggregate score over the past three fixtures between the two sides stands at 14-2. Bayern annihilated Quique Setién’s side 8-2 in the quarterfinals in Lisbon in 2020 and Ronald Koeman’s record against the German giants did the much-maligned Dutchman little good either, two 3-0 defeats in the 2021-22 group stage consigning Barça to the Europa League and Koeman to the chop. On this occasion though, even if payback is a dish best served cold, it is Xavi Hernández’s side who go into Tuesday’s contest hot.

This season Barça have scored 20 goals and conceded just two, wining their last five games on the trot and not failing to score at least three times in each, the opening Liga game of the season, a 0-0 draw at Rayo, swiftly forgotten. Bayern have played eight games since their DFL Supercup victory over Leipzig and have drawn three in the Bundeliga, hardly a crisis situation but not exactly the sort of form expected at the Allianz Arena. If either coach is under pressure ahead of Tuesday’s clash is it Julian Nagelsmann, not Xavi.
Lewandowski the difference for Barcelona
The summer arrival of Robert Lewandowski has given Xavi one of the world’s most lethal strikers for the likes of Ousmane Dembélé, Raphinha and Pedri to aim for and the Pole has bagged nine goals in six games, one of the best starts to a debut campaign by a Barça striker in the history of the club. The Barça boss has also addressed his leaky defence and found a balance in midfield that has been lacking in recent seasons. Pedri, 19, and Gavi, 18, have been handed the reins and some of the old guard, who have been trading on past glories for some time, have been dropped: Gerard Piqué is no longer guaranteed a game, neither is Jordi Alba.
Bayern’s Barcelona record
The feeling around Camp Nou is that Xavi has finally brought the squad and the fans together for the first time since the departure of Ernesto Valverde, one of the biggest institutional mistakes in the club’s recent history.
However, Bayern Munich are still Bayern Munich and Barça’s record against the perennial Bundesliga champions is not encouraging: nine defeats, two draws and two wins, neither of those in Munich. Should Xavi’s side carve out a result it will further enhance the legendary midfielder’s status as a coach of genuine tactical nous. It would also put Barcelona well on their way to the knock-out stages, which is the bare minimum he will be expected to deliver.
