Update:

Picking between greats is never easy and Henrik Larsson played alongside more than most during his stellar career in European soccer.

He won league titles and national cups with Feyenoord and Celtic, scoring 242 goals in 313 games for the Scottish giants. In his later years, Larsson had spells with Barcelona and Manchester United and played alongside some of the best players of the modern era.

Larsson played a key role in Barcelona’s Champions League triumph in 2005/06, coming off the bench to set up both goals in a 2-1 win over Arsenal. In that game he played alongside the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Deco and Ronaldinho, the reigning Ballon d’Or player.

During an appearance on The Overlap this week, Larsson was asked whether Ronaldinho ranks as the best player he ever played with. While he acknowledged the Brazilian’s greatness, Larsson had a different suggestion...

He said: “Yeah, hes up there. But Ľubomír Moravčík... I still can’t tell you if he’s left-footed or right-footed, I don’t know. But he could find you anywhere, he could score goals.“

“He was great, his technique was just something else. Left foot, right foot, it didn’t matter. He could hit it hard, he could caress it, he was just great”

Listening on, Roy Keane concurred, saying: “A lot of people probably don’t know much about him, of course. But he was an amazing player.”

Ľubomír Moravčík was an attacking midfielder who played alongside Larsson for Celtic during the latter stages of his career. Born in Czechoslovakia in 1965, Moravčík spent most of his career with French side Saint-Étienne before spells in Germany and Italy.

In his four seasons with Celtic, Moravčík scored 35 goals in 129 games and earned legendary status with fans. Although his profile does not come close to that of Ronaldinho, or many of Larsson’s other illustrious teammates, Ľubomír Moravčík has plenty of fans among those who remember him play.
