Borussia Dortmund face big spending London side Chelsea in the 2022-23 Champions League Round of 16 after the ‘Blues’ spent more than 300 million euro in the recent winter transfer window. This adds to their big summer spending with the club under new ownership in the shape of American businessman Todd Boehly.

Edin Terzic’s Dortmund men came back from the break in spectacular form winning six consecutive games and go into the Round of 16 clash as the form team. The Schwarzgelben are also boosted by the return of Haller after overcoming testicular cancer and in Jude Bellingham, the German side have one of the most in-form players in European football and the teenager is quickly being added to the ‘wanted list’ of high profile sides. Dortmund are also breathing down Bayern’s necks at the top of the Bundesliga trailing the Bavarians by just three points at the top of the table.

Chelsea are still a side striving for a defined identity despite their big spending. Graham Potter’s team is in tenth position in the Premier and come into the Dortmund clash after recording three consecutive Premier League draws. Both Enzo, Mudryk and João, their three star additions in winter that have revolutionized the Stamford Bridge team and are expected to start against a BVB team that will try to prove that it is not necessary to splash gargantuan amounts of money to have a successful run in the Champions League.

The second leg is scheduled for 7 March at Stamford Bridge (London).
