FIFA informs that if Argentina had beaten France in regulation time or in extra time, it would be Scaloni’s men who would occupy the first place.

Brazil, despite losing in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 on penalties against Croatia, remain the leader of the FIFA ranking, followed by the World Cup winning side, Argentina, who rise to second position.

African surprise package Morocco have risen eleven places since the last time the ranking was updated, reaching the gates of the Top 10 (eleventh place) and becoming the team that scored the most points with 108.85.

The main drop in terms of position was that of Canada, with 12, who left Qatar 2022 without a single point, scoring two goals and conceding seven, despite playing well. As for points, Denmark, also after bowing out early in a disappointing World Cup in which they managed just one point, lost 58.46. The Danish team loses its place in the Top 10, falling to 18th position, and it is Croatia that sneaks into the highest spots, now occupying seventh position.

Where are Spain in the FIFA rankings?

Spain, after falling three places, currently sit tenth. The elimination in the Round of 16 of the then team led by Luis Enrique has dropped them to tenth position.

The classification that Brazil continue to lead is only by the narrowest of margins: just over two points. What’s more, according to FIFA reports, if the albiceleste had beaten France in within 120 minutes and not on penalties, Scaloni’s men would be in first place.

The other major collapses in the rankings are those of Belgium, eliminated in the group stage, and Italy, who did not qualify for Qatar 2022. Both lose two positions.
