Update:

AC Milan return to Champions League action on Wednesday with the first leg of their playoff matchup with Feyenoord. The Italian side will be narrow favourites to progress and they look set to tie down a key player for the foreseeable future.

USMNT star Christian Pulisic has been one of the best players in Italy since his arrival in the summer of 2023. He has attracted interest from the Premier League in recent months, with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester united all interested in his signature.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira reports that Pulisic is close to agreeing a contract extension with Milan, tying him to the club until 2029 and netting him an annual salary of more than $5 million. If he sees out the deal, Pulisic will remain with Milan for the remainder of his 20s.

AC Milan’s impressive attacking depth

Despite Pulisic’s form the 2024/25 season has not lived up to expectations for AC Milan. Head coach Stefano Pioli left last summer and was replaced by Paulo Fonseca but the Portuguese boss was dismissed within a few months. His compatriot Sergio Conceição is now tasked with getting the best out of a talented squad.

In addition to Pulisic, Raphael Leão, Luka Jović and Tammy Abraham in the attacking positions the Milan hierarchy added two more forwards in the January window. Mexican striker Santiago Giménez and Chelsea forward João Félix arrived to bolster the options, giving Conceição a fearsome attacking lineup. The Milan boss is readying his team for the challenge.

“It’s a special game for everyone. It’s important, and we’re here because of our own fault - we could already be in the Round of 16. We want to take responsibility for this,” Conceição said ahead of Wednesday’s game.

“It’s a Champions League game, in a historically difficult stadium. I played there three years ago with Porto. It’s a difficult, tough, and heated environment. We, too, have our problems, with players out of action. We will write the history of the match, because the future is up to us. If we go in with the right attitude, putting into play what we have prepared, then there will be a chance of getting a good result.”
