The 2022-23 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals continue on Wednesday, with current holders and tournament specialists Real Madrid hosting Chelsea, who are not enjoying a particularly good season in the Premier League but will be desperate to show just what they are capable of at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

Blues owner Boehly in confident mood

Despite the Blues’ domestic struggles, which have seen club legend Frank Lampard return as interim manager to replace Graham Potter, there appears to be plenty of optimism ahead of the tie in the Stamford Bridge boardroom. American co-owner Todd Boehly was filmed leaving a Madrid restaurant by Spanish TV programme El Chiringuito TV and was asked for a prediction ahead of the game. Needless to say, Boehly’s expectations are high.

“Chelsea is going to win. 3-0″, stated Boehly confidently before quickly heading off to conduct his pre-match business in the Spanish capital.

Chelsea going for second successive win at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu

Last season, Real Madrid pulled off one of their most famous comebacks against the Blues, who, despite winning 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabéu, ended up losing 5-4 on aggregate after extra-time, having been 4-3 ahead with only 10 minutes left to play.

A similar attacking display to the one put on by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea 12 months ago would be more than welcome and would go a long way to ensuring that Lampard leads his team into the semi-finals. The Champions League is the Londoners’ only hope of glory and winning the trophy for a third time would allow them to salvage what has so far been a season to forget.
