Chelsea welcome Borussia Dortmund to London on Tuesday for their last-16 Champions League second-leg tie.

The first leg saw the Bundesliga side win 1-0 thanks to a wonderful solo effort from Karim Adeyemi. The Germany international will miss the return leg due to injury.

Graham Potter’s side picked up a much-needed three points in the Premier League at the weekend when centre-back Wesley Fofana scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Leeds United.

Dortmund unbeaten in 2023

Dortmund, who are unbeaten in 2023, kept the pressure on leaders Bayern Munich by beating RB Leipzig 2-1. Bayern are top of the Bundesliga on goal difference - as they sit on 49 points - the same number of points as Dortmund.

Who is the referee for Chelsea-Dortmund?

Danny Makkelie from the Netherlands will referee Tuesday’s Champions League match between Chelsea and Dortmund at Stamford Bridge.

Makkelie, 40, is a police officer from Willemstad in the Netherlands and has been a FIFA-listed referee since 2011. He officiated Chelsea’s 3-0 home win against AC Milan earlier this season. The VAR will be Pol Van Boekel from the Netherlands.

Chelsea had their chances to score in the first leg in Germany but couldn’t take them. Potter’s side will still believe they can go through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Adeyemi’s 63rd-minute goal was superb; he ran from inside his own half and then beat Enzo and Kepa to slot home and give the home side the lead. Dortmund have a narrow 1-0 lead heading into the second leg in London and it’s all set up to be a cracking European tie.
