Jurgen Klopp’s men will travel to Stamford Bridge with both sides in need of points after struggling for consistency this season.
Neither Chelsea nor Liverpool have hit the heights this season but still have plenty to play for as we head into April. Chelsea
Despite the vast sums of money spent by Chelsea in the January transfer window, new coach Graham Potter has struggled to mould the club’s lavish attacking talents into a consistent side. The likes of Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez have given the Blues a squad to envy any in the league but Potter’s stuttering start put his position at risk within months of taking the job.
Three consecutive wins in March, most notably an impressive 2-0 Champions League win over Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, helped to settle the nerves and he will be looking to build on that performance after the international break. If he can get the Blues’ forward line firing, they can pose a challenge for any side in the world.
Liverpool
After their relentless form last season, Liverpool’s 2022/23 has been characterised by inconsistency. After an underwhelming start to the season Jurgen Klopp’s men looked to have turned a corner with a resounding 7-0 thrashing of rivals Manchester United.
But they followed up that fine performance with a meek 1-0 defeat against relegation-threatened Bournemouth to throw their Champions League qualification back into doubt. But for all their faults this season, Liverpool have shown that they can lift performances for the big games and their trip to Chelsea could bring the best out of them.
Chelsea vs Liverpool: Who is the referee?
The Premier League has confirmed that the referee for Chelsea vs Liverpool will be Anthony Taylor, who had a notable run-in with one of the clubs earlier this season. Taylor was in charge for the infamous 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur which ended with an on-pitch confrontation between coaches Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte, both of whom have now left their roles.
Then-Chelsea boss Tuchel was fined £20,000 for the spat and an online petition calling for Taylor to not officiate Chelsea games again drew more than 10,000 signatures.
