Chivas Guadalajara announced the signing of Víctor Guzmán on Christmas Day, the Pachuca midfielder rejoining the club where he spent his youth career.

Later on Sunday, Chivas confirmed the return of another academy graduate, forward Daniel Ríos arriving at Estadio Akron from MLS franchise Charlotte FC.

Chivas return scuppered in 2019

Having risen up through the Chivas youth ranks, Guzmán left for Pachuca in 2015 - initially on loan - and made his name in the Liga MX with Los Tuzos.

Chivas sought to re-sign the 27-year-old in 2019, only for a doping violation to scupper Los Rojiblancos’ move for the player, who received a six-month suspension.

Guzmán was a key figure in the Pachuca team that won the Apertura 2022 tournament under Guillermo Almada. He was also part of the side that lifted the Clausura 2016 title.
