A move away from Napoli has been on the cards for Mexico international Hirving Lozano for several weeks and there are suggestions that he could be set for a sensational return to Liga MX. News of ‘Chucky’s’ potential departure has come as a surprise to some, with a survey carried out by AS’ Italian correspondent Mirko Calemme revealing that local media in Italy saw the Tri star as an important figure in his team’s march to the Serie A title.

According to Antena 2 Mexico, Chivas have contacted Napoli with the hope of taking Lozano back to his homeland. The reports adds that the Clausura 2023 runners-up had already tried to sign the winger during his time at Pachuca but were unsuccessful.

Lozano’s involvement in Napoli’s Serie A win

Lozano made 32 Serie A appearances in Napoli’s title-winning campaign, scoring three goals and providing three assists. However, he played only 1,611 minutes, less than half of the possible total. Of the six matches he wasn’t involved in, four were due to a knee injury right at the end of the season, by which time Gli Azzurri had already won the league.

Despite the results of the aforementioned survey, Lozano received criticism from the Mexican press for his performances throughout the season and in particular following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Guadalajara back in for PSV midfielder Gutiérrez

A few seasons ago, Lozano’s Mexico teammate Érick Gutiérrez admitted that he had thought about moving back to Liga MX due to a lack of game time with PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He had an offer from Guadalajara on the table but, after speaking with Jesús Martínez, the owner of former club Pachuca, he decided to stay and fight for his place, which paid off. The midfielder has won the KNVB Cup in successive seasons with PSV but reports suggest he is again looking for a way out and that Chivas have made him an offer once more.
