There was a significant American presence in AC Milan’s Champions League group stage victory over Paris Saint-Germain at San Siro on Tuesday, with Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah both starting for the Italian giants. Despite his team’s triumph, however, the game didn’t end especially well for “Captain America,” who has set USMNT alarm bells ringing ahead of the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final against Trinidad and Tobago.

What injury does Pulisic have?

The 2-1 win will probably not go down as one of Pulisic’ most memorable performances, with Sofascore recording a 74% pass completion rate (20/27). He successfully completed two attempted dribbles and won seven out of nine duels, but lost possession on 11 occasions. In any case, the main takeaway from the game will be his 90th-minute substitution, enforced because of muscle injury.

The 25-year-old went down clutching the back of his leg minutes before the final whistle and was treated on the field by the Milan physio before eventually being ushered off.

What did Milan boss Stefano Pioli say about the injury?

Pulisic missed the Rossoneri’s last Serie A fixture because of a hamstring issue and questions will now be asked about whether he was rushed back too early for one of the biggest games of the season. Manager Stefano Pioli had the following to say after the game: “It seems like a cramp, but in the same place as last time. We really hope it’s just that.”

Gregg Berhalter and USMNT fans will also be keeping everything crossed, with just over a week to go until the Nations League last-eight game against Trinidad and Tobago (on Thursday 16 November). In addition to keeping their hopes of winning another tournament alive, they will also qualify for the 2024 Copa Améria by reaching the semi-finals.

Musah’s limited impact against PSG

Musah, meanwhile, also started before being taken off, although there was no sign of injury when he was replaced after 84 minutes. The midfielder made only 17 passes, completing 14 of them (82%), and one interception, and was shown a yellow card in the 66th minute after failing to win a single duel.
