Clausura 2026 leaves América with a troubling stain that now echoes one of its darkest moments
América’s draw with Cruz Azul completed a painful rivalry sweep, reviving memories of one of the club’s bleakest tournaments.

Intensity returned to the Coloso de Santa Úrsula for the Clásico Joven, where América and Cruz Azul played to a 1-1 draw in a Week 14 game of the Liga MX Clausura 2026.
América failed to win any of its clásicos
During the Clausura 2026, André Jardine’s team took two major blows – a 1-0 loss in the Clásico Nacional against Chivas and another 1-0 defeat in the Clásico Capitalino against Pumas. With the draw against Cruz Azul, América finished the tournament without winning any of its rivalry games.
The result against Cruz Azul confirmed that América could not prevail in any of its three biggest rivalry games of the tournament, leaving a negative mark on the team’s performances in the most meaningful games of the semester.

A worrying precedent for the club
The last time América went through a tournament without winning its three clásicos was in the Apertura 2011, when Alfredo Tena was in charge. That campaign ended with defeats against the club’s main rivals and was remembered as one of the most difficult stretches in team history.
In that 2011 tournament, América lost 1-0 to Pumas, 3-1 to Chivas and 3-1 to Cruz Azul, completing a semester to forget – a precedent that is now being compared to the team’s current situation in the Clausura 2026.
