Club América and Tigres women’s teams announce pre-season games against Real Madrid femenino

The Spanish club will travel to Mexico to play in two games as part of a mini-tour during their pre-season prepartions.

Club América and Tigres have announced in a joint statement that they are set to welcome Real Madrid Femenino to Mexico for a pair of games in a mini tour which will take place at the end of August.

The two clubs “continue to make strong steps forward in the internationalisation of Mexican women’s football”, according to a statement posted on social media.

[The teams] have the pleasure of of announcing the visit of one of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid” continues the statement, “in order to host two games in Mexico’s most important stadiums, the Estadio Azteca and the Estadio Universitario.”

Real Madrid, a club with great history across the world”, it continued, “started their activity in the women’s league in Spain in the 2020-21 season and since then they have finished second twice and third once, as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.”

Real Madrid Femenino have never, unlike their male counterpart, taken part in an international pre-season tour. Currently, the men’s side are in the United States as part of a hugely lucrative pre-season trip that has seen them face teams such as Manchester United and FC Barcelona. This will be the first time that a link-up of such scale has been seen in Spanish women’s football.

When will the games be played?

Tigres will host Real Madrid at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey on August 29 at 8PM local time.

Real Madrid will then play against Club América at the Estadio Azteca in Ciudad de Mexico on September 3, with kick-off scheduled for 2PM local time.

When do tickets for the games go on sale?

There is no news as of yet regarding tickets, with the clubs’ statement saying “with the objective of strengthening women’s football in Mexico and achieve internationalisation in women’s sport, both Club América and Club Tigres are references in our country when it comes to playing international games against elite European teams.

Both teams will announce and begin the process of selling tickets to the games, both of which fans will have the opportunity to enjoy the pair of incredible matches against one of the most emblematic clubs in the world.”
