With the Clausura 2025 campaign ending in disappointment, Club América president Santiago Baños isn’t sugarcoating the situation - some players simply fell short. And with the Apertura just over a month away, changes are coming.

After missing out on the FIFA Club World Cup, América’s front office is already focused on rebuilding for the upcoming season. Baños confirmed in an interview with TUDN that the team will be active in the transfer market, targeting two to three new signings. But first, there will be departures.

América players “didn’t meet expecations”

“There are players we feel didn’t meet expectations with their performances,” Baños admitted. “There are areas on the field we know need strengthening. We’re analyzing everything closely and identifying candidates to bring in.

“We’re looking at two or three reinforcements for the next tournament. Obviously, I won’t mention names or roles because that tends to complicate negotiations, but we’re convinced that these additions are necessary.”

Which players will leave Club América in summer 2025?

Before any new arrivals, América will need to clear space on its foreign-player roster. And that means some big names could be on the way out.

Among the top candidates to leave are Néstor Araujo, Diego Valdés and Javairô Dilrosun. Araujo is expected to exit as a free agent. Valdés, meanwhile, is reportedly close to being sold to Brazilian side Fortaleza. As for Dilrosun, the club is working to find him a new home, potentially with another team in Liga MX.

And that might not be the end of the exodus.

Sebastián Cáceres, Brian Rodríguez, and Álvaro Fidalgo could also be on the move. Cáceres and Fidalgo are said to be eyeing a jump to Europe, while Rodríguez has attracted interest from MLS side Inter Miami.

In Coapa, the message is clear: no one’s spot is safe. The club is aiming for a reset ahead of the Apertura 2025, and underperformers are officially on notice.
