The bottom two teams in Group E of the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be going head-to-head at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar on Dec. 1, with Costa Rica and Germany fighting to make it to the group of 16.

Los Ticos recovered from a 7-0 flogging by Spain to prevail over Japan 1-0, while Germany demonstrated their own grit by finishing with a 1-1 draw with Spain after a shocking 2-1 loss to Japan.

Costa Rica manager Luis Suarez was likely to have kept the lineup that prevailed over the Asian country, but center-back Francisco Calvo was handed his second yellow card of the tournament in the last game and will be suspended for the next one.

Costa Rica likely to use veterans

Joel Campbell of Liga MX will try to help guide the squad to the round of 16 for the first time. The veteran’s experience and speed will be necessary for the team to score much-needed goals.

Daniel Chacon of Colorado Rapids was effective at the tail end of the last game, but Suarez could be more partial to using veteran Juan Pablo Vargas to start the game.

18-year-old Jewison Bennette was relegated to the bench against Japan, but he still has some hope of seeing action again as neither Gerson Torres nor Anthony Contreras gave particularly convincing performances in the last match.
