Update:

Earlier this week, after 23 years as a professional, Cristiano Ronaldo marked his 40th birthday in the only way that he knows how.

The Al Nassr forward scored twice in a 4-0 win over Al Wasl on Monday, taking his career goals tally to an astonishing 923. CR7 turns 40 on Wednesday and is showing no sign of slowing down. He remains one of the most clinical and most adored players on the planet.

His fans will gather in New York’s Time Square on Wednesday to celebrate Ronaldo’s birthday, attempting a massive world record. Supporters want to break the record for the most people performing Ronaldo’s ‘Siu’ celebration in unison.

The celebration has become an iconic part of CR7’s on-field persona and now follows almost every goal that he scored. The crowd often replicates the ‘SUI’ noise and it is now his trademark. The world record attempt has been organised by Portuguese artist Sergio Furnari, who is currently publicising his ‘Cristiano Ronaldo Monument’, a 12-foot metal statue of his compatriot.

On Instagram Furnari said: “February 5th, if you love Ronaldo come to Time Square to celebrate. It’s his 40th birthday, don’t miss it. We’re going to beat the world record of the ‘Siu’ celebration!”

However Ronaldo won’t be in attendance for the celebration in his milestone. His Al Nassr side are back in action in the Saudi Pro League on Friday, when they take on Al Feiha. Stefano Piolo’s Al Nassr are still eight points of league leaders Al Hilal and Al Ittihad.
