Cristiano’s face on greeting Messi in Riyadh sends the internet wild... what did he say?

The Portuguese forward smiled and said something to Messi but appeared to avoid direct eye contact as they greeted each other ahead of Thursday’s Riyadh Season’s Cup clash.

Cristiano’s face on greeting Messi in Riyadh sends the internet wild... what did he say?

It could be the last time that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi ever come face-to-face on a football pitch in a competitive match. Both ended the first half of this evening’s Riyadh Season’s Cup clash on the scoresheet - Messi slotting in the opener after just three minutes and Cristiano levelling it up before half-time from the penalty spot before adding another as it ended 2-2 at the break.

But it was the moment when Cristiano approached Messi prior to kick-off that has caused the most commotion on social media. The Portuguese forward ambled over and smiled briefly before saying something to the Argentinean. Reading his lips, it may possibly have been something along the lines of, “May the best win” (Que gane el mejor). However, he avoided direct eye contact, only fleetingly looking at Messi before turning away.
