Cruz Azul has been the team with the most investment in this transfer market, with five new signings so far. La Maquina has been the standout team during this off-season, hoping to turn that into top form on the pitch. All of their recent additions are foreign players, four of whom are experiencing Mexican football for the first time, and for whom the team reportedly paid over 15 million dollars.

Fernández tops Cruz Azul signings

According to various reports, the Cementeros have spent a significant sum in their plan to revamp the squad and present a different look compared to 2023. Gabriel Fernández, commonly known as “El Toro” and a former Pumas player until a few weeks ago, was reportedly the most expensive acquisition in these transactions.

W Deportes reported that the former university player cost around eight million dollars, as his contract termination clause with the Pedregal team also had to be paid. Among the other four players - Kevin Mier, Gonzalo Piovi, Camilo Cándido, and Lorenzo Faravelli - Cruz Azul is said to have spent nearly 10 million USD. The latter player was a specific request of the new head coach, Martín Anselmi, as he had previously coached Faravelli at Independiente del Valle.

Possibly more signings in the Mexican market

With these players, La Máquina has completed its foreign player signings, as all the spots for ‘players not trained in Mexico’ are now filled. However, the roster continues to evolve, and it could be strengthened with Alexis Vega, for whom a deal close to $3.5 million is reportedly being finalized.

Another player favored by the team is Alfonso González, a Monterrey player for whom there have been initial talks, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
