Cruz Azul keeping the signings coming: this is the CONCACAF champs’ latest new face
Cruz Azul, who are being heavily tipped to win the Apertura 2025, have dipped into Mexico’s second division to bolster their defensive options.
Cruz Azul kicked off their Liga MX Apertura 2025 campaign with a 0–0 draw against Mazatlán. Widely considered title favorites by the media, La Máquina debuted new signings José Paradela and Jeremy Márquez in Saturday night’s match.
And on Sunday, the club made headlines again with the signing of center-back Jorge Rodarte.
Who is Jorge Rodarte?
Rodarte, 21, arrives on a one-year loan from second-tier Mexican club Mineros de Zacatecas, where he has spent his entire career so far. He made his first-team debut during the Apertura 2023 and has since racked up 55 appearances, collecting 12 yellow cards and two red cards along the way.
The youngster has been brought in to freshen up Cruz Azul’s options at the back, where Willer Ditta and Omar Campos started on the flanks in the Apertura opener, with Ignacio Rivero and Érik Lira in the center.
In the Clausura 2025, Cruz Azul boasted the third-best defensive record in the regular season, conceding just 16 goals. Tigres (14) and Toluca (10) led the league in that category.

What’s up next for Cruz Azul?
Under head coach Nicolás Larcamón, Cruz Azul will travel to Guadalajara next week to face Atlas.
On July 26, they host León before the league pauses for the Leagues Cup - the cross-border tournament featuring clubs from Liga MX and MLS. In the revamped format of this year’s Leagues Cup, Cruz Azul will face Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy and Colorado Rapids in the league phase.
