Dani Alves under investigation in Brazil ahead of World Cup in Qatar
The Pumas player is under investigation for receiving 6 million reais from a non-governmental organisation.
Brazil’s Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Pumas player Dani Alves. The former Barcelona right-back, who has been called up by Brazil for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is reportedly in trouble over an issue with a non-governmental organisation in his home country.
According to the Brazilian media Ge, the Brazilian Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Alves for receiving 6 million reais from an NGO that does not meet all the specific requirements.
The same media outlet reports that Alves founded an NGO to promote basketball in his country, but instead of founding it, he acquired one that had been in existence for five years. Brazilian law states that an NGO must have been in existence for at least three years in order to receive government money.
Alves’ NGO has not been in existence for five years and Folha reports that although the organisation bears the name of the Brazil international, it is presided over by Mauricio Carlos, a director charged with embezzlement at the Brazilian Football Confederation a few years ago.
