Who has qualified for the Spanish Super Cup 2027? Teams, dates, venue

Two teams have made sure of their presence at next year’s Spanish Super Cup, with the tournament’s remaining spots all but certain to be filled by LaLiga’s current top two.

Two teams have made sure of their presence at next year’s Spanish Super Cup, with the tournament’s remaining spots all but certain to be filled by LaLiga’s current top two.

The 2025-26 season is nearing its conclusion, but there are still several LaLiga matchdays left that will decide plenty of key outcomes. Among them, the identity of the two teams that will earn the right to compete in the next Spanish Super Cup as LaLiga champion and runner-up. As things stand, the only clubs that have already locked in their place in the 2027 Super Cup are the two finalists of this season’s Copa del Rey: Atlético Madrid and winners Real Sociedad.

With just seven games remaining in the LaLiga campaign, both Barcelona (79 points) and Real Madrid (70 points) hold a commanding advantage over the rest of the pack. As a result, it seems highly unlikely that Villarreal, currently third on 61 points, can catch either of the two giants of Spanish soccer in such a short span of time. Still, while there’s life, there’s hope - and the reality is that, as of today, neither Madrid nor Barça has mathematically secured its spot in the Super Cup.

If LaLiga were to finish exactly as the table stands now, the Super Cup semifinals would see Atlético Madrid face Barcelona, while Real Sociedad would take on Real Madrid.

Where will the 2027 Super Cup be played?

As reported by AS, next year’s Super Cup will not be played in Saudi Arabia. The Spanish Soccer Federation (RFEF) has an agreement with the Asian nation to stage the tournament there through at least 2030. However, next season’s edition will clash with other major sporting events in Saudi Arabia, including the Esports Olympic Games and the AFC Asian Cup, meaning the 2027 Super Cup will be forced to find a new home.

While there is still no official confirmation, RFEF president Rafael Louzán has pointed to Doha, Qatar, from the outset as the leading alternative host. Everything will depend on how the ongoing conflict in the region evolves. Louzán has also addressed the possibility of bringing the competition back to Spanish soil: “Obviously, we would love for the Super Cup to be enjoyed in Spain as well, in our stadiums, but it’s also true that we already have a packed calendar with the league, the Copa del Rey, and European competitions.” There is therefore nothing to suggest a return to Spain in the immediate future.

When will the 2027 Super Cup be played?

As of now, the exact dates for next year’s tournament are still unknown. Based on previous editions, it has typically been held during the second week of January, but the RFEF is not ruling out pushing the Super Cup back by a week or two. Some sources have even mentioned the first week of February as a possibility. For now, though, nothing has been made official.
