Decision made on future of Cruz Azul coach Vicente Sánchez
As Cruz Azul prepare for the CONCACAF Champions Cup final against the Whitecaps, the Liga MX club is facing upheaval on the bench.

Although Vicente Sánchez and Cruz Azul have both said he will remain as head coach for the CONCACAF Champions Cup final, it appears the showpiece event will be the Uruguayan’s last match in charge of the team.
Sánchez eyeing next career move
According to ESPN journalist César Caballero, Sánchez has demanded immediate payment of bonuses from the Cruz Azul hierarchy, allowing him to leave the club after the final and explore other career opportunities.
Sánchez’s contract with La Máquina runs until December this year, so he still had some time left with the team, according to the same source.

Who could replace the Cruz Azul coach?
As Sánchez prepares to depart Cruz Azul, sporting director Iván Alonso has set about searching for a replacement, with Matías Almeyda, Diego Milito and Guillermo Almada the candidates most heavily tipped for the job. Almada has already been contacted by the Pachuca management to inquire about his services.
As for Almeyda, he recently parted company with Greek club AEK Athens and is looking for a new team; however, the Argentinian does not plan to return to Mexican soccer at the moment. The former Chivas Guadalajara boss has already been approached by Monterrey and turned them down, because he wants to continue his career in Europe.
When is the Champions Cup final?
The CONCACAF Champions Cup final, which sees Cruz Azul take on MLS team Vancouver Whitecaps, is scheduled to take place on June 1 at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, with kick-off at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.
However, elections are being held in Mexico on the same day, so the date and venue could change.
