Edson Álvarez’s debut with West Ham United will not take place this weekend. The Mexican midfielder signed with the British club on a five-year deal for €41million ($45m) on Thursday.

West Ham head coach David Moyes has revealed in a press conference that his debut will not be on the opening weekend due to an injury. “First of all, we are very happy to have him. We’ve worked very hard on bringing in a number of players in the summer,” Moyes said.

“It’s good to have at least one here and hopefully they will come like buses and we will incorporate some more, but he (Edson) hasn’t trained at all since the CONCACAF Gold Cup so he won’t be available for this week,” he added.

Move to the Premier League

Álvarez made the move to the Premier League club from Ajax and his debut for West Ham could come against Chelsea, the club that made an offer to sign him in the last transfer window.
