Endrick misses out on number 9 shirt for Brazil: what shirt number does he have?

The Palmeiras forward has not been given the number 9 for Brazil, as was hoped by many fans, with a Premier League sensation being given the honour.

Update:
The Palmeiras forward has not been given the number 9 for Brazil, as was hoped by many fans, with a Premier League sensation being given the honour.

On the eve of Brazil’s next match in the South American Qualifiers, with the spotlight pointing at the national team due to Neymar’s injury, the question remains of who will take his place.

Well, given Endrick’s recent call-up the rumours have swirled that the Palmeiras player may start; for now, the Brazilian Federation (CBF) have only made the official announcement of the numbers of the players called up for this matches against Colombia (November 16 with kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT) and Argentina (Tuesday 21 November 2023 with kick-off at 7.30 p.m. ET / 4.30 p.m. PT).

Who normally wears number ‘9′ for Brazil?

Without Richarlison in the squad selected by Fernando Diniz for this present international break, the great question mark hovering over Brazil has been who exactly will wear the famous number ‘9′.

It should be noted that there is a small curse regarding the number: no national team player with the ‘9′ shirt has scored a goal since Richarlison himself at the World Cup in Qatar (against Croatia), so it was expected that Endrick could be the bearer of it during his first call-up.

Which number will Endrick wear for Brazil?

However, it will be João Pedro who will wear the number ‘9′ on his back. Without Gabriel Jesus (who probably would have worn it), the Brighton attacker has instead taken on the historic number and Endrick will have to bide his time. In the end, the Palmeiras striker and future Real Madrid player will wear the ‘21′ as he takes his first steps as an international player, something that contrasts with the ‘9′ that he was given at his club side as soon as he made a place for himself in the first team.

The video released by the CBF on their Instagram account revealed all the squad numbers that the players will wear, with Vinicius keeping his famous ‘7′ and Rodrygo inheriting the ‘10′ left by Neymar due to his cruciate ligament injury. Either way, one of the most anticipated aspects of the clash in Barranquilla will be the possible debut of Endrick with Brazil (you can see if that’s likely by watching the video above). If the player does not make his debut in Colombia, then there is always the upcoming tie against Argentina, a true Clásico of the continent.
