Despite his injury woes, England are keeping hold of Jude Bellingham and are hopeful he can feature at some point during the international break. Real Madrid, on the other hand, would prefer to see him back in Spain.

So far this season, Real Madrid have relied heavily on Jude Bellingham, who has 13 goals so far, and it seems that England need him just as much. Yesterday, the English National Team dropped three players from their squad due to various injuries, but Bellingham was not one of them (Maddison, Dunk, Wilson).

England keep Bellingham despite injury concerns

They have made the decision to keep him as part of the squad for now and will assess the player’s physical condition further, despite the fact that Real Madrid publicly showed their preference in keeping him wrapped in cotton wool at their Valdebebas training ground in the Spanish capital, something which would allow him to recover from the shoulder injury that has kept him out of two games: Valencia in LaLiga and Braga in the Champions League (where Real Madrid sit top). “If Jude can’t play with us, then he can’t with England”, said Ancelotti last Sunday after the 5-1 LaLiga win.

This point of view is not shared by the Three Lions. Bellingham had to be at their St. George’s Park training complex on the dot with the rest of the squad in order to form part of the side that will go up against Malta on Friday. The English doctors want to continue to monitor the player’s recovery, with the hope that he will be able to feature in Monday’s game against North Macedonia.

Real Madrid want Jude back at home

Real Madrid are sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring, because they can’t do anything else. Despite their wish to have their star player at home and under medical surveillance, the English Federation can keep hold of their man unless they deem the injury to be clearly too serious to play. Real Madrid believe that Jude’s problem does impede him from getting involved in the on-field action, but the English doctors are yet to share the same opinion.

On Tuesday 14 November, England will have their first training session of the call-up, in what will be Bellingham’s first test with the Three Lions and a decent indicator of whether or not the ex-Birmingham City midfielder will be able to have any actual playing time with his national side.
