Europa League round of 16 draw: When is it, what is the format and what teams have qualified?

Thursday night saw the Europa League 2022-23 group stages come to a conclusion with the top two sides progressing in the competition.

The 2022-23 UEFA Europa League group stage came to its conclusion on Thursday night as 16 teams from the eight groups advanced in the competition with the group winners heading straight into the Round of 16 with the eight runners-up now set to participate in a knockout round with the eight third placed teams from the Champions League.

Group stage winners (seeded) - advancing to Round of 16

  • Arsenal (ENG)
  • Betis (SPA)
  • Fenerbahçe (TUR)
  • Ferencváros (HUN)
  • Feyenoord (NED)
  • Freiburg (GER)
  • Real Sociedad (SPA)
  • Union Saint-Gilloise (BEL)

The eight Europa League group stage runners up and eight Champions League third placed sides will be drawn together in Monday’s UEFA draw at their Nyon HQ with the draw commencing at 13:00 (CET).

Seeded teams

  • Manchester United (ENG)
  • Midtjylland (DEN)
  • Monaco (FRA)
  • Nantes (FRA)
  • PSV Eindhoven (NED)
  • Rennes (FRA)
  • Roma (ITA)
  • Union Berlin (GER)

Unseeded teams

  • Ajax (NED)
  • Barcelona (SPA)
  • Juventus (ITA)
  • Leverkusen (GER)
  • Salzburg (AUT)
  • Sevilla (SPA)
  • Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)
  • Sporting CP (POR)

These Europa League knockout phase games will be played in 2023 with the first legs are scheduled for 16 February, with the second legs a week later on 23 February.

These eight winners will then be drawn against the seeded Europa League group winners with that particular draw being staged on Friday, 24 February in Nyon with the Round of 16 games going ahead on 9 and 16 March (2023).

Related stories

The draw for the quarter and semi-finals of the competition will be 17 March 2023 with games earmarked for 13 & 20 April 2023 (quarter-finals) with the semi-finals going ahead on 11 & 18 May.

The final will take place at Budapest’s Puskas Stadium on 31 May 2023.
