Finally, Cruz Azul pick up a win in Liga MX

There was a surprise result at the BBVA Stadium as Cruz Azul triumphed over Monterrey’s Rayados, thus lifting them off the bottom of the overall standings, Puebla and Necaxa now below them.

After a string of five winless matches, the La Máquina was determined to secure victory at any cost, and the match unfolded in their favour thanks to precision in front of goal and the flawed tactical approach of the home team. The final score stood at 1-2 in favour of Joaquín Moreno’s team, with goals coming from the Colombian Diber Cambindo and the Brazilian Moisés Viera; one goal per half. The solitary goal for the albiazules was scored by the Argentine Maximiliano Meza.

Andrada blunder paves way for Cementeros success

Goalkeeper Esteban Andrada inadvertently facilitated the victory, as the opening goal of the game saw Cambindo’s shot pass between his legs.

Towards the end of the first half, Rayados appeared to have the upper hand and managed to net the long-awaited goal through Meza. However, at the start of the second half, Cruz Azul once again delivered an unexpected turn of events.

Rumours circulated on social media that Jordi Cortizo, who had been making an impression in Monterrey, was one of the players that ‘Jimmy’ was focusing on. Unfortunately, luck was not on his side, as he had a subpar performance and was even substituted out during the second half.
