Feyenoord’s Mexican striker, Santiago Giménez, was the star of the show as his goals helped his side to a 6-1 win over Almere City.

It was a spectacular night in Rotterdam for Feyenoord and Santiago Giménez, whose side thumped Almere City 6-1 at home in a game that saw the forward bag a brace in front of a jubilant home crowd.

In a game in which the biggest problem for the home side was the heavy rain, Giménez opened his account and grabbed his first of the night in the third minute. He managed to slip past his marker, get in behind and shoot across goal to start the early party at the Feyenoord Stadium.

A thunderstorm stopped the game for over an hour but that only allowed the red and white team to settle some important details on how to take advantage of their defensive opponents. Igor Paixo doubled Feyenoord’s lead on the tenth minute and Geertruida joined in on the celebrations just 9 minutes later in what was an extremely comfortable affair for the current league champions.

The result was signed, sealed and secured in the first half, but any hope of a miraculous comeback was quashed when Feyenoord stepped up a gear and Mats Wieffer burst through the raindrops to bag goal number four of the game.

Santiago doubles his goal tally from the penalty spot

And then came Santiago Giménez’s second of the night, on 65 minutes. It arrived from the penalty spot as the striker who scored Mexico’s Gold Cup winner smashed home. Van de Kamp cut the lead and allowed Almere City to leave without a zero on their side of the scoreboard, but Timber got another for the home side in added time of the second half to get his side to half a dozen goals.

After two draws, the Rotterdam side sealed an important win that they will use to get their Eredivisie campaign back on track. Santiago Giménez, for his part, will be looking for the top scorer award this season.
