Flamengo vs Al Hilal: summary: score, goals, highlights, FIFA Club World Cup

Soccer Football - Club World Cup - Semi Final - Flamengo v Al Hilal - Grand Stade de Tanger, Tangier, Morocco - February 7, 2023 Al Hilal's Salem Al-Dawsari celebrates after the match REUTERS/Andrew Boyers

Al Hilal beats Flamengo 2-3 and advances to the final!

What a moment for the Saudis! Their team advances to the final after knocking out everyone’s favorite Flamengo. The Brazilian team was a disappointment from start to finish. One might say that they underestimated the Saudi team. Their lack of concentration is alarming. They gave two stupid penalties in the first half and got a red card to go with those.

Al Hilal under the management of Argentina legend Ramon Diaz was a superb team today. They were able to control the flow of the game and dictate the tempo. They got off to a good start after an early goal, and they didn’t get nervous when Pedro scored the equalizer and kept to their tactical plan. Towards the end of the first half, they kept pressuring and pressuring until Gerson committed a stupid foul, and they were able to go up one at the half.

The Brazilians tried to organize things with two subs at the start of the second half, but their efforts were barely noticeable. The subs didn’t add anything to the game. Actually, they took away from it. The team didn’t have the intensity of the first half. Al Hilal knew the game plan, wait and catch Flamengo on a black. That’s exactly what they did, and Vietto scored a very pretty goal after a stupid lost ball in the middle of the pitch by Flamengo.

Al Hilal will now face the winner of the game between Real Madrid and Al Ahly. This will be the Saudi’s first final-ever play on a Club World Cup. This is history in the making, and we are more than happy to be able to witness this in real time and in 4k. Flamengo will have to go back to Brazil and try to explain how they lost this one.

Flamengo is not in the game. They can’t get the ball. Al Hilal monopolises the ball, touching side to side and they don’t seem nervous at all. This is not good for Flamengo.

Arturo Vidal comes in the game for Flamengo to try to add some fighting spirit, but it might be to late for them. The Brazilians can’t seem to penetrate the Saudis.

Flamengo are all out trying to score one. The desperation is real for them. If they can get one now, maybe they have a chance in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Which club has won the most FIFA Club World Cups?

Real Madrid are the only team involved this year who have previously won the FIFA Club World Cup and they hold the record for most victories in the competition, although that’s a recent phenomenon, despite the fact that they’ve not won it for five years.

The reigning European Champions lifted the trophy four times in five years between 2014 and 2018, with their last two triumphs seeing them leapfrog three-time winners Barcelona into top spot.

Brazilian club Corinthians and Bayern Munich are next on two wins, with seven clubs (Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Milan, Inter, São Paolo and Internacional of Brazil) having won it once.

Ighalo top scorer

Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo is Al Hilal's top scorer this season with nine goals in 14 games.

He starts up front for Ramón Díaz's side today and will be hoping to be a nuisance for the Flamengo back line.

Club World Cup history

AFC/Asian and CAF/African teams have reached two finals. Japanese side Kashima Antlers lost to Madrid in the 2016 final, while the Spaniards beat Al Ain of the UAE in 2018. Congolese club TP Mazembe and Raja Casablanca of Morocco are the two African finalists, losing to Inter and Bayern in 2010 and 2013 respectively.

OFC/Oceania is the only continent never to have provided a FIFA Club World Cup finalist, despite Auckland City holding the record for number of appearances. And that trend won’t be broken this year, with the New Zealanders having already been sent home by Al Ahly, who face Real Madrid tomorrow.
