Gago on Boca signing Sergio Ramos: “We’re going to have fun in the next few weeks”
The Spanish centre-back, who played with the Boca coach at Real Madrid, has been without a club since his contract with Sevilla ended.
Boca Juniors have wrapped up their 2024 season with the Buenos Aires giants finishing sixth in the league table.
Thoughts at the club now turn to the new season and as the transfer market opens in January, the name of Sergio Ramos continues to be linked with Los Xeneizes. The defender has been a free agent since his deal with Sevilla ended last summer.
Sergio Ramos and Fernando Gago, Boca’s coach, were teammates at Real Madrid during the four and a half seasons and the apparent positive relationship between both men only accentuates the rumours about the Spanish defender signing for Boca.
After Boca’s final game of the season (vs Independiente, 0-0), Gago was asked about the chances of Ramos joining the Argentine side. The Boca coach stated: “I haven’t spoken to anyone about this”, adding, “in the next 15 or 20 days you are all going to have plenty of have fun with the subject of reinforcements...”.
“We will look for players who can contribute to what we consider we need. We will look for the benefit of the collective, regardless of the names that may arrive. There will be reinforcements and departures, that’s logical. There will be time to work on that,” added Gago.
Local Argentine outlet TyC maintain that the Boca Juniors board plans to approach Sergio Ramos to find out if he plans to continue his professional career and, if they get an affirmative response, if he considers the possibility of playing for Boca.
