River keeps building momentum ahead of Boca after extending its unbeaten run and tightening its grip at the back.

River Plate has warning for Boca ahead of Superclásico
River Plate will head into Sunday’s Superclásico against Boca in outstanding form. Coudet’s team beat Carabobo in the Copa Sudamericana and has now put together a nine-game unbeaten run. They have yet to lose under Chacho, who rested several regular starters and got his substitutions exactly right.
After the hard-fought draw in the opening game, River needed to win at home and delivered despite sweeping rotation, with one eye clearly on the date circled on the calendar against its fiercest rival. Although it struggled for stretches against the defensive wall set up by the Venezuelan side, River’s quality gradually took over.
The game swung River’s way after halftime, when Driussi came on and Kendry Páez followed shortly afterward in place of an off-target Juan Fernando Quintero. The forward opened the scoring soon after from an assist by the Ecuadorian.
From that point on, Páez was the standout figure. He grew in confidence and kept threatening. He first came close to scoring with a run into the box, then played an excellent pass to Galván, whose shot hit the crossbar, while the opposing defense struggled to contain him.
Beltrán had very little to do in this game, and River once again underlined how strong it has become defensively. During this nine-game unbeaten stretch, the team has conceded only four goals.
