Germany captain ‘in talks’ with Real Madrid over surprise summer transfer
Kimmich is reportedly open to a move to Real Madrid this summer, when his Bayern contract ends.

Alphonso Davies, long rumored to be on Real Madrid’s radar, now appears closer than ever to signing an extension with Bayern Munich. However, the German club’s star making headlines as a potential addition to Real Madrid’s roster is none other than Joshua Kimmich.
According to the German newspaper Bild, the captain of Germany’s national team has already engaged in discussions with representatives of the reigning Champions League titleholders and is reportedly open to swapping Bavaria for Spain’s capital.
Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern expires this summer, and negotiations with the Munich-based club have yet to yield an agreement. The news about his future emerges amidst a turbulent time for Bayern, following a stinging 3-0 defeat in Rotterdam.
Kimmich tempted by prospect of joining Real Madrid
Per Bild’s report, Kimmich finds the prospect of joining Real Madrid highly appealing, especially given the club’s consistent contention for the Champions League title. While Bayern remains in talks with their star midfielder, Kimmich reportedly views the move to Madrid as a “serious and highly attractive” opportunity. His interest is partly driven by the gap left in Real’s midfield after Toni Kroos’s retirement.
In fact, Kimmich has previously expressed admiration for the Spanish giants. Ahead of last season’s Champions League semifinal between Bayern and Real Madrid, the 29-year-old midfielder gave an interview to Bild where he praised Real Madrid’s remarkable Champions League pedigree.
“Whenever you watch Madrid in the Champions League, you see their incredible mentality and quality,” Kimmich remarked. “They have a strong squad—lots of talent, but also plenty of experience. You can feel it, especially in the big games.”
Reflecting on Bayern’s matches against Madrid, Kimmich added: “You sense their experience and their unique connection to the Champions League. Six years ago, they turned the tie around after losing both legs despite my goals. They always manage to change games in the final moments. It’s about quality, but also about mentality—and they have both. We know they’re an incredibly strong team.”
As Kimmich weighs up his options, Real Madrid fans may have reason to hope that the midfield maestro will soon don the iconic white jersey. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich faces a critical juncture as they strive to keep one of their most influential players.
