England captain Harry Kane has arrived in Germany to finalise his transfer to German champions Bayern Munich.

On Thursday Tottenham Hotspur accepted a bid of €100 million (£86m/$110m) from Bayern, leaving the final decision to Kane. After initially appearing likely to stay with Spurs, the 30-year-old has opted for a move to Munich and left London on Friday to complete a medical.

Expectant Bayern Munich fans were waiting to greet Kane when he landed in Bavaria and his car was swarmed with fans.

The England captain has been pursued by Bayern Munich all summer as they look to bounce back from an underwhelming 2022/23 season. They retained the Bundesliga title for the 11th consecutive season but had to rely on a final day collapse from Borussia Dortmund to finish top.

Bayern lost talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski two years ago and have struggled to replace him. Last year the club brought in Sadio Mane from Liverpool to play a part in a fluid frontline, but he struggled to adapt and left for the Saudi Pro League this summer.

In Kane, Bayern Munich believe they have a player around whom head coach Thomas Tuchel can build a team capable of competing for European honours.

He leaves Spurs as the club’s all-time record goal scorer and has finished as the Premier League’s top scorer on three occasions. He was beaten to the 2022/23 Golden Boot by the incredible Erling Haaland, but still managed to hit 30 league goals in a poor Tottenham team.

On Friday afternoon Kane arrived in Munich to complete a medical with his new club.

Bayern begin their new season at 8:45pm on Saturday with the German Super Cup, which sees the Bundesliga champions take on the winners of the DFB Pokal.

Provided that the paperwork is completed in time and he is registered as a Bayern player by 3pm on Saturday, Kane will be eligible to feature against RB Leipzig that evening.
