Pumas are wasting no time in restructuring their squad for the Liga MX’s upcoming Apertura 2025 tournament. With the goal of strengthening their defense, Los Universitarios are chasing Independiente left-back Álvaro Angulo.

Swap deal for Angulo?

According to Superdeportivo, Pumas have submitted a financial offer for Angulo, who has been earmarked as one of the defensive pillars of the project led by the Liga MX club’s new head coach, Efraín Juárez.

Fox Sports reports that the Mexicans have also floated the possibility of sending Ignacio Pussetto to Independiente in part-exchange.

Angulo has rejected the Argentinian club’s offer of a new, improved deal. With Independiente refusing to meet the Colombian’s financial demands, this has opened the door for his departure from the Estadio Libertadores de América.

Who is Álvaro Angulo?

Angulo made his professional debut with Colombian club Deportivo Pasto, playing 25 times for Los Volcánicos.

He later established himself with 18-time Colombian champions Atlético Nacional, making over 100 appearances and scoring 11 goals.

His move to Argentine football came in the 2024-25 season. Since joining Independiente, he has played 23 games and scored four times.

Pumas in need of roster boost

Pumas were recently eliminated by Monterrey in the Liga MX Clausura 2025’s play-in round, highlighting the need to strengthen their squad for the new season.

In addition to Angulo, Los Auriazules have also been linked with players such as Aaron Ramsey, whose signing is also reportedly close to being finalized.
