The stunning Solar Eclipse of 2024 left its mark across much of the North American continent, fascinating all those lucky enough to be in its path.

As for Mexico’s lucky locations, Sinaloa, Durango and Coahuila experienced the event in its entirety, the first of its kind in Mexico in 33 years. Other cities in the country were able to appreciate it in its partial phase. Images of darkness in the middle of the day flooded social networks on a historic day for millions of people from the Mexican Pacific to southern Canada.

Mexican soccer did not sit still amongst the wave of amazed reactions. Several clubs linked the eclipse with metaphors about the goings-on in Clausura 2024, or with club history. Mazatlán, the team belonging to the first city in which the phenomenon was seen in its entirety, posted a video of the stadium, El Encanto, under complete darkness as the path of totality cut through the halfway line.

Santos Laguna, a side from Torreón, where the sun completely disappeared behind the moon for a few minutes, shared a recording, which they used to highlight their club badge. As we can see, the majority of Liga MX teams took advantage of the natural phenomenom for a bit of social media banter. We’re all here for it.
