Lionel Messi is looking forward to his first full season with Inter Miami. The Argentine forward has opted to be present from day 1 of Inter Miami’s preseason, with the aim of being in tip-top condition for the new season.

The MLS regular season runs from February to October, but during that time Inter Miami will play in the Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup and US Open Cup.

That large number of games will give Messi the chance to become a record-breaker for the South Florida club, as he is expected to surpass his numbers from 2023.

How many goals did Messi score for Inter Miami in 2023?

In his first five months with Inter Miami, Messi scored 11 goals in the 14 games he played. He also missed a significant number of games due to injury issues, especially over the final stretch of the season.

Messi on course for record-breaking season

As mentioned above, five months was enough for the former Barcelona man to become an important player for the club, as in those 14 games, he entered the list of top scorers in the club’s short history.

Messi is the fourth highest scorer with the aforementioned 11 goals, however, all signs point to him breaking all sorts of records this season. He is currently 18 goals behind compatriot Gonzalo Higuain, who to this day is the club’s all-time top scorer.

Messi will have the chance to score those 18 goals with Inter Miami in 2024, with four competitions to score in. The second highest scorer for the club is Leonardo Campana, who has 23 goals to his name, although it remains to be seen how many minutes the Ecuadorian receives after the arrival of Luis Suárez, another player who could become one of the club’s all-time top scorers.
