How many times have Club América defeated Real Madrid?
The Liga MX side will play a friendly match against the LaLiga giants on Tuesday night in San Francisco, California.
Club América are the team with the most titles in Liga MX and they are ready to face Real Madrid, the club with the most Champions League trophies in Europe, on Tuesday night in San Francisco, California. This will be the fifth time in history that the sides have played against each other and the fourth time that they have done so in a friendly match.
The first time they faced each other was in 1927, when Real Madrid’s pre-season tour took them to the Mexican capital, at a time when the country didn’t have a professional soccer league. The LaLiga giants played two friendlies against América in Mexico City: in the first game they won 4-2 and in the second they came out victorious with a 5-3 result.
Eighty-three years later, the teams met again during Real Madrid’s pre-season tour in the United States. In 2010, the LaLiga side defeated Club América 3-2 in San Francisco, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Sergio Canales finding the back of the net. Meanwhile, Enrique Esqueda and Vicente Sánchez scored for the Liga MX side.
The only time they have played in an official tournament was in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2016. América reached the semi-finals in Yokohama but lost 2-0 with Benzema and Cristiano scoring for Madrid. That year the team was managed by Zinedine Zidane and ended up winning the tournament.
Benzema good to go against América
Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Karim Benzema will play 45 minutes against Club América after not playing against Barcelona. The French international will most likely start the second half and Eden Hazard could play again as a false nine.
