How much money do PSG want to sell Neymar?

The Brazilian winger has one foot out of the door in the French capital and his club have now made clear what it would take for him to go.

Neymar’s wish to leave PSG came as a shock at the start of June. On Monday, L’Équipe revealed that the Brazilian had communicated to his club his desire to seek pastures new by the end of August. The information was immediately challenged by his father in the Brazilian press, but it is certainly true that the player who has wanted out of the French capital for months.

Everything goes back to the month of June. Weeks after the ultras gathered outside his house demanding that he leave the club, Neymar took the decision to leave PSG. The club, however, were not prepared to go through with economic concessions for the second-highest paid player in the squad and a footballer who has a contract until 2027. Qatar had made him aware that they were not going to sell him for less than €150 million, although they were willing to accept a loan in order to save on his hefty wages.

PSG willing to loan Neymar

Sources consulted in Doha insist that they were “surprised” with the information that came from L’Équipe. The situation had calmed down until the last few weeks and, in fact, a much calmer Neymar was seen under the orders of Luis Enrique in a system that accommodates his style and needs on the pitch: ‘Ney’ was finally re-finding his feet at PSG.

Last Thursday, Neymar started the game against Jeonbuk in South Korea and scored two goals as well as grabbing an assist for new attacking partner, Marco Asensio. However, PSG remain open to accepting a loan for the player that includes an obligatory purchase option for the following season. This year, PSG’s accounts are not under threat from the looming FFP rules, but next year, with the new laws, the club needs liquidity and one of the biggest potential sales is of course their Brazilian forward.

MLS showed interest in Neymar

MLS have shown an interest in the player but it is impossible that they pay the money that the French club are looking for, meaning that the only realistic option right now is a loan.

A month ago, Chelsea showed an interest in the player, but they wanted to be sure that the option to sign him was actually a viable option and that PSG were prepared to strike a deal. In France, the trend is moving towards the winger staying despite Neymar’s wish to go at some point in the summer. He will play in PSG’s game against Lorient, but it cannot be discounted that he ends up leaving before the September 3 deadline.

Could Neymar go to Saudi Arabia?

Over the past few hours, Saudi Arabia has emerged as an option for Neymar. The 31-year-old has spent the past few months mulling over a potential exit from the French capital and according to L’Équipe, Al-Hilal, the team that first tried to sign Messi and then Mbappé, are prepared to offer him a contract worth €80 million per year, an economic proposal that would simply be impossible to reject and one that has made him rethink whether or not he wants to stay in Europe.

Neymar’s priority is still to stay in Europe, as he has his sights set on the 2026 World Cup, but the offer from Asia is causing him to think. PSG, as AS have revealed, are ready to accept a loan for the player with an option to buy in 2024 for a fee that could reach €150 million, therefore fixing any potential FFP problems.
