Cruz Azul continue in their search for a new technical director after the dismissal of Raúl Gutiérrez. The decision has taken longer than expected because the board of directors, headed by Víctor Velázquez, is keen to evaluate all the candidates in mind. Among them is Hugo Sánchez, who revealed that he has already spoken with the club and is waiting for their decision.

Talking to ESPN’s Futbol Picante program, Sánchez explained that Cruz Azul had already contacted him and interviewed him for the job. For the moment they have decided to leave Joaquín Moreno as interim coach. “I already did my homework, in my appointment that I had with Víctor Velázquez and Óscar (Pérez) and we are waiting for news. We are ready for when they make the decision,” Sánchez said.

While he is waiting for a decision to be made, the former Real Madrid player says he does not any reason why Joaquín Moreno cannot continue as an interim solution considering the team has a busy calendar ahead.

“It would be the reasonable thing to do (keep the interim coach on board). The team has a lot of games in a short space of time, so changing coach would be a bit hasty. They will wait for the opportune moment to make the decision,” said Sánchez.

Regarding what he discussed with Víctor Velázquez and Óscar Pérez, Hugo Sánchez revealed a little of what was said in that interview. “They openly told me that there are other candidates. They want to find out what each of them thinks, to hear what they feel is missing in the team and what ideas they can bring.

“They asked me and I told them, I explained what my plans were, what my ideology is, my work methodology, my coaching staff, etc.” he added.
