Inter Miami imply Messi is stalling over a new deal

In a week when negotiations between Inter Miami and Leo Messi over a potential contract extension have become public, Sunday’s draw against the Chicago Fire has largely flown under the radar.

So much so, in fact, that most of the questions directed at Jorge Mas—one of Inter Miami’s most prominent owners—during his latest appearance focused on Messi’s contract talks.

Mas confirmed that discussions are already underway between the club and the Argentine star, making it clear that Inter Miami is eager to keep Messi on the roster at all costs: “That decision is ultimately up to Lionel Messi.

"On behalf of myself and the club, we are in talks with him,” said Mas, implying that the hesitation so far has come from Messi’s side.

Mas emphasised that one of the key factors influencing Messi’s decision will be the opinions and desires of his wife Antonella and their children Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro: “I believe they’re happy—both Antonella and the kids are enjoying a really beautiful stage in their lives. That’s exactly what we want as a club: for Leo to feel at home in our community,” he said, sounding optimistic.
