Inter Miami reveals the severity of Messi’s injury
The Argentine left the field against Necaxa due to muscle discomfort and underwent tests.
After alarm bells rang at Inter Miami when Lionel Messi was forced to leave the field just minutes into the match against Necaxa, the club provided an important update on Sunday regarding the Argentine captain’s injury — and the news wasn’t as bad as initially feared.
A statement published on the Fort Lauderdale club’s official website read: “Inter Miami CF today has provided an injury update presented by Baptist Health for Inter Miami CF captain Leo Messi.
Messi underwent medical tests to evaluate the extent of the muscle discomfort he experienced during last night’s Leagues Cup match against Necaxa, which forced him to leave the field.
The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment."
Based on this update, it’s clear that the Argentine star is expected to miss the upcoming match against Pumas UNAM on Matchday 3 of the MLS-Liga MX competition.
