Isco off to Italy? Salernitana in talks

According to the journalist Alfredo Pedullá, there are contacts between the southern team and the ex-madridista, who always has a big poster in Italy.

With his brief adventure at Sevilla now behind him, Isco finds himself back on the market. His age (he turns 31 in April), leaves many doors open for him in spite of the difficult time he has been through plus the need to rediscover his form of old. The ex-madridista has always had admirers in Italy - Juventus were keen to sign him for years and last summer there was talk of possible interest from Fiorentina, a club that has been linked with him again ahead of the winter window.

Several Serie A clubs have made contact with Isco’s agents and according to journalist Alfredo Pedullá, one of the most interested is Salernitana. The Campania-based outfit, who managed to stave off relegation for the first time in Serie A in May (they finished 17th, one point above the drop zone), have an ambitious project and are always on the lookout for big name players who fancy a new challenge.

Ochoa on board

Franck Ribéry spent his final season at Salernitana before hanging up his boots for good and owner, Danilo Iervolino tried to sign Edinson Cavani last summer. Just before Christmas, the club secured the signing of Mexico goalkeeper Memo Ochoa. According to Pedullá, Isco has already been offered to the southern Italian club, who are in need of reinforcements in midfield. They have enquired about the Spanish playmaker’s situation, after he was released by Sevilla earlier this month.

This season is turning out to be far less stressful for Salernitana than previous ones - for the first time, they are away from the fight for survival. The team occupies 12th place - 10 points clear of the relegation zone. Isco, who would join as a free agent, would become their star player.
