Salernitana have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa from Club América, the Mexico international joining the Serie A club on an initial six-month contract.

Six-month deal could be extended

“The player has signed a deal with the club that will run until 30 June 2023, with the option of an extension,” Salernita said in a statement on Friday. “He will wear the No. 13 shirt.”

Ochoa’s fifth European club

Ochoa, 37, had been expected to renew his contract at América or accept an offer to move to MLS, but has sprung a surprise by returning to European football.

Capped 134 times by Mexico, the keeper has previously had spells with Ajaccio in France, Málaga and Granada in Spain, and Standard Liège in Belgium.

Salernita currently in mid-table in Serie A

Having narrowly avoided relegation from Serie A last season, Salernitana are enjoying a positive campaign this term. Under head coach Davide Nicola, the Granata sit 12th in the table, seven points clear of the drop zone.
