The Mexican winger took to social media to bid his team mates, the club and fans farewell in his own inimitable way.

América’s squad rebuilding project is underway with new players set to arrive and others moving on. This afternoon, Jürgen Damm announced his departure with a meme. Very habitual in his light-hearted way of expressing himself on the internet, Damm said goodbye to his team mates by making fun of himself, in a relaxed tone and giving his thanks for his brief stint with the Eagles.

“He had hardly played a game when, on his debut, he kissed the club badge; whenever he played, he ran like nobody else but his crosses went to the Moon”, read a fragment of the text that accompanied a meme with an image of Apu, a character from the animated series The Simpsons, in a collage with the player walking away.

Damm’s tweet attracted a lot of comments from fans and journalists, who said their own goodbye to the player and expressed their affection for him despite not having been a leading figure within the squad. He made a total of 10 appearances between July and March this year.

Damm joined América as a free agent last summer. A mystery injury meant that the 30-year-old winger missed practically the entire Clausura 2023 tournament. He was a substitute in the first game of the season against Querétaro as welll as in the Week 9 game against Atlas, and played just eight minutes of the following game against Pachuca in what would be his last appearance for the club. Damm’s next destination looks like being Atlético San Luis.
