LA Galaxy vs LAFC preview

LA Galaxy

The hosts will start their season with the objective of winning a sixth MLS Cup title.

Greg Vanney’s side, who last lifted the trophy back in 2014, featured in the playoffs last season after finishing fourth in the Western Conference with 50 points.

Galaxy managed to defeat Nashville SC in the knockout stage, but they fell short in their semifinal fixture with LAFC, losing 3-2 with Cristian Arango scoring in injury time.

Since their elimination, Galaxy have played six games, winning only two of them against St. Louis City FC and Toronto.

LAFC

The situation is way better for the visitors, as they are the current MLS champions.

Steve Cherundolo’s pupils topped last season’s Western Conference with 67 points, 11 more than second-placed Austin FC, after recording 21 wins in 34 games.

Their remarkable regular season saw them directly qualify for the Conference semifinals, where they defeated LA Galaxy.

In the Conference final clash, LAFC comfortably came out on top vs. Austin (3-0) to book a spot in the final against Philadelphia Union.

After a 2-2 draw, both teams went to extra time, where Jack Elliot and Gareth Bale made things even more exciting by scoring two more goals before the penalty shootout, where Cherundolo’s side ended up grabbing the title.
