LA Galaxy 2 vs 4 Toluca live online: stats, scores and highlights | Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals

First let us talk about the header to Franco Rossi, who played it back to Paulinho almost too unselfishly, It looked like the Galaxy had dealt with the danger but Paulinho stuck a foot in there and secured his hat trick and the fourth goal of the night for the home side. It's still wide open heading to back to LA for the second leg last week. 

Reus found himself in the right place at the right time with a ball bouncing in the box that was claimed by Aude. The savy veteran positioned himself in the perfect place and just needed to tap it in to the back of the net. That seemed like it was going to be enough for the Galaxy who would have signed on the dotted line for a 3-2 finish from Toluca, but the Devils had other ideas. 

Just when it seemed as though LA was gaining some momentum, Paulinho came and spoiled the party. It was a 1-2 at the top of the box, and it might have taken a fortunate bounce for the Toluca striker but there was nothing lucky about his finish for his second goal of the night. 

Marco Reus came in as a sub in the second half, and made an impact on the game from his first touch. LA looked calmer and more dangerous with the German midfielder on the pitch. His through ball to Gabriel Pec was weighted perfectly, and the top scorer in the CCC buried his sixth from a tight angle. 

The Devils continued to seek a second after taking the lead and their efforts were rewarded with a brilliant counter attack led by Helinho. He played a delicious diagonal ball into the path of Angulo who served it up for Paulinho who tucked home his first of three goals. 

Toluca won a quarterfinal first leg full of fireworks from the Estadio Nemesio Diez as Paulinho scored a hat trick to lead the home side to a 4-2 win over the LA Galaxy. 

There wasn't much doubt who the better team was from the start. Toluca came out swinging and landed the first blow ten minutes into the game. Periera played this marvelous ball over the top right on to the foot of Nico Castro who finished it calmly past the LA keeper who was kept plenty busy on Wednesday night. 

IT'S ALL OVER!!!!

Toluca win it in a thriller. Paulinho is the hat trick hero, but the Galaxy are still very much alive in this tie. 

Three minutes of stoppage time added. 

It was a a great ball over the top on to the head of Paulinho in front of goal. He decided to nod it across to Angulo who sent it back to Paulihno who looked like he had lost possession but stuck a foot in front of the clearance and it ended up in the back of the net!!!! When it´s your night, it's your night. 

Gallardo and Simon out for Rossi and Barbosa. 

Gallardo with a half shot half cross from the left side, that just made the Galaxy keeper think but it flies past the frame and out for a goal kick. 

Sanabria with a clearance in the middle of the box after a dangerous looking cross from Vega. 

Corner was too tall for Garces on the back post and that is dealt with by Toluca. 

Joao Klauss with a great effort to outrun the defender and earn a corner kick. 

Yamane and Thommy off and Cuevas and Sanabria come on for LA. 

The ball was bouning in the box and Aude claimed it, slid it over to Reus who slotted it home on a bang bang play in the box. 

Paulinho set the play up, and finished it. It may not have been the perfect 1-2 he was intending but it worked out just as well

This was the goal from Gabriel Pec who looked like he got the Galaxy back in this tie with a goal from an extremely tight angle. That gave LA some life, but any momentum was just taken away by Paulinho's second goal. 

Paulinho started the one two with Angulo at the top of the box. His pass never found his teammate, but he bounced off a Galaxy defender and was tucked home by Paulinho for his second of the night. 

Nelson out, Aude in for the Galaxy. 

Vega with a low cross from the left side and that was in search of Angulo, but the Galaxy deal with the danger just about. 

Another sub coming for Toluca, it´s Helinho coming off for Lopez. That's a defenseive minded sub with 20 minutes to go in the first leg. 

Pec into the area with a couple of step overs and he rolled it across the box looking to find Joao Klauss, but it was cleared away. 

Reus started it all, but it was Pec who made magic happen. It was one of those positions where the keeper was expecting a cross to come in and Gabriel Pec sneaks it inside the keeper and the post. He is the top scorer in the competition with six now in the CCC. 

Paulinho got a wide open header on the back post off a ball from Simon but he put it wide of the target, and he can't believe he just missed that golden opportunity for a 3-0. 

Reus involved for the first time since coming in and the passing all of the sudden becomes a whole lot more intricate in the area. Nothing came from the chance but it looks better from LA. 

Romero with a touch and a shot from distance but that goals sailing harmlessly over the crossbar. 

A couple of subs coming for LA, it´s Haak for Miller, and Reus coming in for Wynder. 

Pec running at defenders after a take away in the middle of the park and he ripped a shot at goal but Garcia was able to palm it away. A sign of life from LA in the attacking third. 

Vega's cross in was sent wide by Yoshida off the set piece. 

Free kick to come for Toluca and they get to push some bodies into the area and look for a nice service from the left side. 

The difference in the midfield has been evident all match long, but right now Toluca are having no troubles at all working the ball around and making the Galaxy chase. 

Corner kick comes to nothing as the cross is sprayed away at the front post. 

LA seem to be taking their time a bit, not just with this corner kick but with a few balls all the way back to the keeper. They are either gassed, or thinking of how to prevent this 2-0 scoreline getting any worse. 

Corner coming for LA, just their second of the game. 

First charge up the park for Toluca and it's Simon who put a lobbed ball onto the head of Castro and he turned on it well but it was right at the keeper Marcinkowski. 

How do LA come out after being shell shocked in the first half of action? They would love to cut into this lead, but have to be cautious knowing 3-0 is a dangerous deficit to go back to LA with. 

WE ARE BACK IN ESTADIO NEMESIO DIEZ STADIUM FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION!!!

Just a few second before this gorgeous pass from Helinho, it was LA who was in the Toluca box, but in the blink of an eye the counter was sparked. Helihno carried the ball up the right side, looked for Angulo with the diagonal ball, and Angulo could have taken the shot on but made the extra pass that Paulinho was able to guide in to double the Toluca advantage. 

Ten minutes into the match and the home side were rewarded with a fearless start to this match. A beautiful ball from the back by Periera fell on to the foot of Nico Castro who was in behind the defense and made no mistake in the 1v1 against Marcinkowski for the 1-0

It was all the home side who looked dominant from start to finish in that first 45. 

One last attack from Toluca as Angulo found Paulinho with a ball from the left side. He ran on to it, played it back to Vega who put in a first touch cross that was sent away by LA. 

Two minutes of stoppage time coming in the first half. 

Periera is forced off with an injury and it's Briseno coming in on the back line for Toluca. 

Paulinho will get his name on the score sheet but Helinho was the brains of that goal. Fantastic diagonal ball that tempted the last defender into taking a chance and that opened all the space for Angulo who was unselfish passing up a scoring chance for a guaranteed goal. 

One touch on goal from Paulihno recieved the ball from the left side with a pass from Vega, Marcinkowski didn´t handle it on the first attempt, but secured it with the second as Toluca players were closing in. 

Helinho into the mix again for Paulinho on the front post, and again he tried the flick but this was didn´t carry as much venom and goes out for a goal kick. 

Helinho looking for the goal Olimpico from the right side with the in swinger and that almost caught the LA keeper out. 

Bang bang play from Toluca and it was Helinho with a dangerous low ball into the front post and Paulinhho was there looking to flick it on goal but it was just blocked away. 

Cerrillo was holding up Romero and got a little too much of him provoking the first yellow card of the night. 

Some close passing in tight spaces for Toluca that ends in a hand ball after the ball popped up and hit Angulo in the arm. 

Toluca just seem as though they are pumping the breaks a bit after the Galaxy had a few consecutive runs at the goal of Garcia. 

Pec running at a defender on the right side, but took a heavy touch and saw that ball trickle over the end line. 

Corner seeking the head of Joao Klaus but that was headed away and out of danger. 

Nelson does a nice job tracking down a ball that looked like it was heading over the end line, and crossed it into the middle where it was nodded out of play for LA's first corner. 

Nothing happening for the Galaxy even when they do win the ball back they end up giving it right back up. 

It's Nico Castro with the goal, but the pass from the back deserves almost as much credit as the take down and finish from Castro. Toluca lead 1-0 and continue searching for the 2-0

Vega on the left side looking for Paulihno in the area but that pass came in a little high for the striker. 

Nice spell of possession for Toluca who is looking to double their lead as LA just look to hold on midway through the first 45. 

Periera found himself in the heart of the box with a free header off the corner but put it right into the chest of Marcinkowski. 

Short corner falls for Vega outside the box and his cross is blocked away for another corner. 

Vega's cross from the left side was deflected goalward and it needed a touch over the bar from Marcinkowski. Corner coming. 

Pec with a rare run at defenders and he chose to slip it off to Thommy but that was cut out by the Toluca defender. 

Helinho with a short corner to Paulinho and that cross was dangerous but just a bit too high for anyone to get onto the end of. 

Paulinho with the take away in the attacking third, and his shot at the top of the area is blocked for a corner. 

Toluca have a notoriously stingy defense, so lets see how the Galaxy can respond after an early uppercut from the Mexicans. 

The finish was cool from Castro, but the ball from the back from picture perfect. Right onto the laces of Castro from Bruno Mendez and he caught the defense sleeping on that occasion. 

Thommy on the left foot with a touch inside the box, and got good contact on the shot but put it on the outside of the post and into the netting. 

First time off the line for Marcinkowski and he wraps that pass into the area up with ease. Toluca controlling most of the possession and showing the most intent in the attacking third. 

Another good ball into the middle from Paulinho, this time from Vega, and he tried to back heel it into the path of a teammate in the box but didn´t get enough on it and LA survive a scare. 

Castro played a ball into the area, and he tried to turn on it and put it on target but just left the shot wide left of Marcinkowski's goal. 

Pec won the ball back in the attacking third but sent his cross over the head of everyone, perhaps because of the thin air here in Toluca. 

Helinho creeping from left into the middle of the area and he laces one across the face of goal by wide of the target. 

Pretty open game so far. Theres a lot of space in the middle of the park and both teams are running end to end. 

Gabriel got in behind and took it a ball off the chest but just allowed the defender to recover at the edge of the area. 

Angulo the first attack of the night comes from the home side courtesy of Angulo who sent a dangerous ball into the area looking for Paulinho but it was cleared away by the last defender.

CCC history: Toluca 

It's been over two decades since los Diablos Rojos have won the Cup in this competition, but they are looking to get back to the finals for the first time since 2013. They won the fourth edition of this tournament back in 1968, but didn’t hoist the trophy again until 2003. Since then they have been to two finals in 2006 and 2013/14, but came up empty. 

CCC history: Galaxy  

LA haven´t had much luck in this competition, winning it just once in their three decade long history. Their only Cup came in the year 2000 when they beat Honduran side Olimpia in the final, but since then they have had a frustrating time trying to add a second CCC title to their trophy cabinet. They made it to the quarters last season but got knocked out by Tigers UANL. This year they will be looking to take a deeper run into the tournament as they look for their 2nd CCC title. 

League form: Galaxy

The Galaxy have had a bumpy ride start their MLS campaign, but they have a chance to put some of their worries behind them in the quarterfinal of the CCC tonight. It's been four straight matches without a win in the league and their last win in the league was their only one of the season through six matches. It came against Charlotte who is actually at the top of the Eastern Conference, but with just 5 points in 6 matches the Galaxy need to carry some of their form from the CCC to the domestic league. 

League form: Toluca

The Mexican side are hanging around the top of the table in the Clausura, with just one loss in 13 matches, they have 26 points. Guadalajara Chivas are leading the league with 31 points, but it's Toluca that have the best defense in Mexico at the moment, having allowed just 8 goals in 13 matches. Don't forget that Toluca came in first in the Apertura earlier this season and beat Tigers UANL in the final with an aggregate of 3-2. 

Star watch: Galaxy 

There are two guys to watch out for tonight for Greg Vanney's side and Toluca knowing that if they can shut them down, they have a good chance against LA. Brazilaina Garbiel Pec has five goals of the seven that LA have scored in the CCC. He had a trick in the first leg against Mount Pleasant and a brace in the return leg. He hasn´t scored in the MLS campaign, but he does have two assists, and his countryman Joao Klaus has five goals in the six league matches he has played. 

Last match: Toluca 

Toluca are winless in their last three in the Clausura, including their 1-0 loss to Queretaro over the weekend. It was a game that was dominated by the Red Devils but they were unable to capitalize on their 23 shots and 76% possession. They conceded a goal in the 76th to drop three points on the road. Their last CCC match came against San Diego FC, and after a 3-2 loss away from home, it was Jose Angulo taking the reigns, scoring a brace to lead Toluca past the MLS side in a 4-0 win in the second leg to move on to the quarterfinals. 

Last match: Galaxy

The LA Galaxy are coming off a home loss over the weekend at the hands of Minnesota United. They have won just two games in their last five, and both of those came in the round of 16. A 3-0 win over Jamaican side Mount Pleasant in the first leg was followed by an 0-3 win on the road with goals from Joao Klaus and a brace from Gabriel Pec to ensure the Galaxy's spot in the next round of the CCC. 

How they got here: Toluca 

Toluca got a first round bye in the CCC, which placed them in a round of 16 matchup with San Diego FC. They lost the opening leg in California 3-2 to San Diego side that went down a man in the 12th minute, but would rebound in the return with a 4-0 win to book their ticket to the quarterfinals. 

How they got here: Galaxy

Greg Vanney's men had a tricky first round matchup against Sporting San Miguelito of Panama. They picked up a 1-1 draw away from home in the first leg, and the away goal was enough to move them on after a 0-0 second leg. Their round of 16 matchup was a bit more comfortable as they beat Mount Pleasant of Jamaica 3-0 in each leg.

Hello everyone and welcome to Toluca for this quarterfinal first leg between one of the top teams in the Clausra this season, and a team that is struggling to get the wheels off the ground in the MLS. Both of these sides have their eyes on the semifinal, but the road to the final four starts tonight at the Estadio Nemesio. It's two of the U.S. and Mexico’s biggest clubs battling for a spot in the next round over the next 180 minutes. Will Toluca be able to take care of business at home or will it be the Galaxy surprising the Liga MX side under their own roof.
