After LAFC’s El Tráfico false start last weekend due to bad weather, the team can finally start their engines for the 2023 season against Portland Timbers on Saturday 4 March. The MLS Champions will be looking to get their campaign up and running with a win against a difficult opponent, but it seems as though they have history on their side: LAFC have won in all five of their season-opening matches in MLS history; only FC Dallas are ahead of that record with 6.
Portland Timbers finished on the edge of the play-offs in 8th position in the Western Conference last season, and their goal difference of 0 shows that they had a problem keeping the ball out of the back of the net. Manager Giovanni Savarese will be looking to solve the defensive problem in 2023.

For Portland, Felipe Mora, David Ayala and Dairon Asprilla are all recovering from knee injuries and have not yet played this year. Added to these three, Tega Ikoba is also set to miss out due to injury; Sebastian Blanco is also a longer-term absentee.
The one doubt that Portland Timbers have is regarding Yimmi Chara, who came off early in the first game o the season last week.
As for LAFC, Maxime Crepeau was absent from all of the side’s pre-season friendlies with a broken leg and won’t feature for a while.

He managed 12 goals and 12 assists in MLS last season, showing that the fuel tank inside the Mexican is far from empty. He already found the net in pre-season, so he still knows how to tie the laces on his goalscoring boots.
