Jaime Lozano’s first call-up as Mexico coach continues to divide opinions among the country’s football community.

This weekend it was the turn of León president, Jesús Martínez, who is adamant that Panzas Verdes right-back Iván Moreno deserves to be on the Tri list for the upcoming friendly matches against Australia and Uzbekistan.

Martínez believes that his player is the best in his position in the Liga MX, as verified by the league’s own statistics, and is surprised that the 25-year-old full-back has not been called up for international duty.

He said: “I think there are several players who are missing from the list, but in the end, I’m not the person who draws up the list. For example I think that a player like Iván Moreno on the right side deserves to be included. He has excellent statistics - the best in the league but aside from the figures, when you see him play, you enjoy the game,” he noted.

Martínez added that, apart from Moreno, León have other players who should be considered for the national team in the process of rebuilding the side heading towards the 2026 World Cup.

“I hope that in the not too distant future, not only him (Iván Moreno), but also Fidel (Ambriz), Rodolfo (Cota) get called. We have excellent Mexican players. I trust Jimmy Lozano, and the people who are there at the Federation, but it wouldn’t hurt if they turned a little this way,” he said.

Just a few days ago, Toluca president Fernando Suinaga, revealed his surprise at the omission of midfielder Marcel Ruiz in the Mexico squad.
